Jean Harmon Clark, 89 died on June 7, 2012 at Cedar Hills Assisted Living, Selma, Alabama. Her death followed a brief illness.
Mrs. Clark was born on November 4, 1922 in Wetumpka, Alabama to Homer V. Harmon and Emma L. Harmon. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Syble H. Simon, Nell H. Bradford, her brothers, Joe S. Harmon, H. Gerald Harmon and Thomas H. Harmon. Survivors include her Husband, John Clark; daughter, Elizabeth Rose Clark Koch (Florian) of Amelia Island, FL; grandchildren, Sarah Catherine Cook (Jackson) of Birmingham and John Nicholas Koch (Denise L.) of Birmingham; great-grandchildren, Harper Rose Cook, Jackson Best Cook, John Nicholas Koch, Jr. and Vincent Florian Koch; nieces and nephews, Jo Wayne H. Chism (Chalmers H.) of Birmingham, James M. Simon (Cheryl) of Alexandria, VA, Nancy S. Snider (Charles) of Montgomery and Thomas V. Harmon of Miami, FL.
She married John Clark on October 30, 1942 and had been married for 69 years at the time of her death. Mrs. Clark was educated in Wetumpka, Alabama. Following her marriage to John they lived in England for 3 years during World War II where she worked for the American Red Cross.
Returning to America they made their home in Birmingham, Al and eventually they moved to Selma in 1970. Mrs. Clark had an interest in a variety of hobbies- gardening, flower arranging, all things nature, genealogy, sewing and the history surrounding World War II.
She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Birmingham serving as the President of the Women of the Church. Again at St. Paul's, Selma she served in a variety of offices of the Women of the Church. Her volunteer time was devoted to the Vaughan Hospital and the Medical Center as a Pink Lady. She served over 4,000 hours. She was an active member of the DAR, Daughters of 1812, Daughters of the Confederacy and she served on several other boards in support of her community.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday June 11, 2012 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Reverend David Powell officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. A private family burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. in the Lower Parrish Hall.
Active pallbearers will be Catesby Ap R. Jones, Thomas Ap R. Jones, John Calame, James Hines, J. Parke Keith and Jeff Dennis. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jerry Dillard, Dr. Caldwell Debardeleben and Dr. Louis Caldwell.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, The Selma-Dallas County Public Library or the Central Alabama Animal Shelter.
