Jean Reynolds Kyser, 94, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013. She was a devoted lifelong member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Carlowville, which she served as a member of the Vestry, The Episcopal Women and in various other capacities. She graduated from Selma High School in 1938, attended Florida State College for Women and graduated from the University of Alabama. Her career as a child welfare worker was marked by her constancy in seeking to improve the lives of those least able to help themselves.
Jean Kyser was born October 27, 1919 to Samuel Alison Reynolds and Eugene Johnston Reynolds. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, George Patton Kyser. She is survived by her sons, George P. Kyser (Mary Margaret) and Samuel Reynolds Kyser, and grandchildren, Mary Patton Kyser and Samuel R. Kyser Jr. Her devotion and generosity toward her family will be remembered always by those she leaves behind. An unselfish consideration of others was evident to the end.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2013 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Carlowville, with burial in St. Paul's Churchyard, Rev. Ben Alford officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Family and friends are invited to gather inn the Parish House immediately following the service. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations in Jean Kyser's memory be made to St. Paul's Carlowville Foundation, P.O. Box 27, Minter, AL 36761 or the Selma-Dallas County Public Library.
Pallbearers will be Sam Wall, Jr., Townsend Kyser, Ashley Kyser, Owen Peak, Eugene Johnston, and Albert Merrill. Honorary Pallbearers will be John White, Joe Kyser, Bill Kyser, Bruce Owens, Lyle Smith III, Doug Smith, and Jere Peak.
