Jennings Bryan Peeke, Jr, 90, of Selma, Alabama, entered the presence of his Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by family on May 13, 2019.
JB was born January 24, 1929, in Canton Bend, Alabama, and moved to Selma in 1941. He married the love of his life, Gladys White, in December of 1949. JB worked in the insurance industry for 37 years and served the city of Selma as councilman and City Council President. He was an active member of First Baptist Church where he helped originate the Maverick Sunday School class.
JB was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather; he enjoyed spoiling his family with delicious coke floats. His pastimes included golf, dominoes, crossword puzzles, woodworking, gardening and all sports.
JB was preceded in death by his parents, Jennings Bryan Peeke, Sr, and Flora Belle Gates Peeke, as well as his sister Myrtle Peeke Romito. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Gladys White Peeke, daughter, Judy Peeke Reed (Barry), daughter Connie Peeke Shepherd (Lawson), and sisters Eleanor Peeke Derryberry (Ralph), and Anne Peeke Brown. He adored his grandchildren Amy Reed Dramer (Chris), Barry Bryan Reed (Shannon), Blanton Plummer Reed, Jennings Shepherd Tisdale (Richard), and Caitlin Marie Shepherd, as well as his 8 great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend special appreciation to Betty Evans and Barbara Merchant for their care and devotion to Mr Peeke.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church Thursday, May 16, at 10:00 with a celebration of life beginning at 11:00. Private family graveside will follow. Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons Chris Dramer, Bryan Reed, Blanton Reed, Richard Tisdale, and great grandson Gates Dramer. Honorary pallbearers are the Maverick Sunday School class and the Dominoes Boys.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church; PO Box 1186, Selma, Alabama 36702.
