Joe Rives, Sr.

Joe Kain Rives, Sr., age 86, of Selma, AL, passed away August 14, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Rives and brothers, George Walton Rives, Murray Rives and Charles Rives. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Pearson Rives; children, Starr (David) Hudson, Susan (Terry) Shelby, Joe K. (Julie) Rives, Jr. and Barbara Aultman; sisters, Faye Spivey and Sue Kozel; grandchildren, Starr Pearce, Susanna Carnecchia, Joe Kain Shelby, Katie Jones, Christopher Frith, Jennifer Hill and Michelle Belknap and great-grandchildren, Dan, Charlie, Billy, Caitlyn, Mason, Jasmine, Emily, Bethany, Bailey and Hayden. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 11:30 a. m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Gardner officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10-11:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be Frank Moore, Tracy Fountain, Jason Jones, Chris Frith, Rickey Shelby, Jerry Shelby and Deke Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Hardy Sunday School Class at Shiloh Baptist Church. Mr. Rives was the Deacon Emeritus of Shiloh Baptist Church. He was a member there for 64 years. He was co-owner of Rives Appliance Company and a previous member of the Dallas County Board of Education and Southside Civitan Club. Mr. Rives was also a master wood craftsman.
