John Fondren

June 12, 1939 — January 28, 2014

John Bertram Fondren, age 74, of Selma, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014.

He is preceded by his parents: Andrew Jackson and Jennie Thomas Fondren; and a brother: Darwin Fondren.

Bert is survived by his wife of 53 years: Carolyn Fondren; son: Michael Fondren (Donna) of Selma; daughter: Lynn Fondren Pearce of Selma; grandchildren: Reid Fondren, Katherine Fondren, Jackson Pearce, Mary Ashlyn Pearce, Crawford Pearce; sister: Jacqueline Shields; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bert was a loving husband, daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend. He was a charter member of Westwood Baptist Church for which he loved and adored his fellow members. He was especially fond of those in the Dick Bean Ready Sunday School Class.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Westwood Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Eaton officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery in Greensboro at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Westwood Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Reid Fondren, Jackson Pearce, Ellis Thomas, Steve Fitts, Jerry Little, Gary Farley. Honorary pallbearers will be the Dick Bean Ready Sunday School Class. Flowerbearers will be Katherine Fondren and Mary Ashlyn Pearce.
