Joseph Eugene Garrison passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024, at the age of 84, in Marion, Alabama. Gene was born on March 5, 1939, to the late Tennis W. Garrison and Ernestine Morrow Garrison of Plantersville, Alabama.
He attended Auburn University, where he earned a degree in Accounting, leading to forty-six loyal and dedicated years of employment at Bush Hog located in Selma, Alabama. On September 29, 1962, he married DaNelle Lawrence Garrison, and together they spent forty-one years as partners, blessing them with two children. He was an avid fan of Auburn football. Gene found joy and fulfillment in gardening and sharing vegetables with his family and friends. He was a devoted member of Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Plantersville, actively participating in many annual gatherings, particularly enjoying the preparation of his famous stew.
He was preceded in death by his wife, DaNelle Lawrence Garrison.
He is survived by his son, Paul (Diana) Garrison; daughter, Elizabeth (Tom) Cammack; sister, Katherine (Kenneth) Rotker; six grandchildren, Brad (Mary Margaret) Averitt, Katherine (Wesley) Gunter, Sarah Garrison, Kevin Garrison, Joshua (Selina) Garrison, and Amy (Timo) Garrison; two great-grandchildren, Whitman Averitt and Elaine Garrison; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to his caregivers, Lashondar Nelson, Mary Tarver, Frederica Jones and Oliver Eaton along with the staff of Southland Nursing Home located in Marion, Alabama
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church , with Rev. Ira Blanchard officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
