Emblem

Larry Allen Wells, age 87, died peacefully on July 22, 2024 at his home in Flowood, Mississippi, after a battle with cancer. Larry was born August 20, 1936 in Keokee, Virginia, the son of Elige and Monette Wells.

Larry was dedicated to his wife, children and grandchildren, and spiritually adopted many others in his church family and surrounding community. He lived and breathed the Apostolic gospel and was not ashamed of sharing his testimony. He loved people and never met a stranger. The Spirit of giving was evident throughout his ministry. He enthusiastically and compassionately served as Pastor of the First Pentecostal Church of Marbury, Alabama for about thirty years.

Larry was simultaneously employed as a Meat Market Manager for forty years. He was known for his trustworthiness and loyalty and he made many valuable contributions to his profession.

In 1957, Larry met and married Ettis Henley, the absolute love of his life. He treasured the story of how they met, even until his last days. They were longtime residents of Prattville, Alabama and enjoyed the ‘country life’ until he moved to Mississippi to be closer to his children.

Larry served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1962. He enjoyed telling stories of his experiences. He also loved to tease and tell jokes. Seeing joy in a smile and hearing the sound of laughter in the room always energized him.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Sheila Dykes (Marty); son, Glenn Wells (Jennifer); six grandchildren – Brittany Blanton (Elijah), Blake Beane, April Dykes, Destiny Sturgill (Denver), Justin Wells, and Carson Adair; four great-grandchildren – Kennedy Orr, Sullivan Blanton, Alora Sturgill, and Autumn Sturgill; a host of nieces and nephews and many friends. Larry is preceded in death by his wife, Ettis Henley Wells (2017), his infant son, Richard Allen Wells (1958); his father Elige Wells, his mother Monette Wells, and his brother Don Wells.

During his last days, he quoted either Psalms 1:1-2 or Hebrews 11:6 to almost every caregiver that came to his home. He believed in daily worship and would teach a Bible Study to anyone who would listen. He loved old-fashioned gospel quartet music and sang it often. His loyalty to The Kingdom of God and his kind Spirit will long be remembered and cherished by many.
