Les Boley, a beloved band instructor and cherished friend, passed away on November 3, 2024, at the age of 61. His indelible spirit and passion for music touched the lives of many, leaving legacy that will resonate in hearts of his students and those who knew him.
Born August 15, 1963, Les graduated Magna Cum Laude from The University Montevallo, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Music. This academic was one of his proudest accomplishments and served as the foundation for a remarkable career in education. For 25 years, he dedicated himself to nurturing young musicians, beginning his journey in Hoover before making his mark primarily in the Dallas County School System, especially at Martin Middle School. Les had a special bond with his "Band Kids," inspiring them not just with his musical talent but also with his vibrant and colorful personality.
Les was an incredibly talented musician who could play any wind instrument with ease, yet he was particularly passionate about guitars. His creativity shone through when he conducted, turning every rehearsal into a spirited and memorable session. He had a playful side, often injecting humor into his instruction—though a thrown drumstick or baton might surprise a student, it was always done with love and encouragement.
Outside of his professional life, Les found joy in the simple pleasures. He cherished grilling and spending quality time with his family, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His love for music extended into his recreational life as well; he was an enthusiastic gamer who enjoyed playing online with friends, embracing the camaraderie and connection that came from shared experiences.
Les Boley leaves behind a profound impact on those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. His commitment to music education, his zest for life, and his ability to connect with people will forever be remembered. The world is a different place without his laughter and his music, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will hold a private service, but you are welcome to leave condolences on his obituary page.
