Lewis Calvin Singley, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on June 11th, 2023. Known as a loyal friend, dedicated family man, and pillar of his community, Mr. Singley's passing has left a profound impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Born on October 28th, 1925, he joined the Navy to serve his country. After serving in the Navy, he attended Livingston State College (University of West Alabama) before pursuing his career in life insurance with New York Life where he eventually became a well-respected agent.
Throughout his life, Lewis was an active member of his community as he served on several committees including the Riverfront Market Day Committee and Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce and was also a past President of the Civitan Club from 1971-1972. He was also a trustee for Alabama Sheriff's Boys and Girls Ranch.
Outside of work, Lewis enjoyed hunting and spent his later years working in his yard and tending to his fruit trees. His proudest accomplishments included being a member of the Historic Preservation Society in Selma and that he and his wife, Kitty, along with three other couples were the charter members of Elkdale Baptist Church, originally forming the church in 1952.
Mr. Singley is survived by his loving wife, Kathalene "Kitty" Singley; children: Van (Patricia) Singley, Terry (Brenda) Singley, Tony (Amanda) Singley, and Lisa Clayton; nine grandchildren and multiple great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved father, Wriley Thomas Singley, mother Addye Day Singley and son-in-law Ronnie Clayton.
The funeral service will be held at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma on June 14, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Nicholas Gandy officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
