Mrs. Lillie Evie Long, age 81, a resident of Selma, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Sardis Baptist Church near Rockford, Alabama with Rev. Ira Blanchard officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. She will lie in-state one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 29, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home, Selma, Alabama. She is survived by her husband John Ross Long, Selma, Alabama, son Michael Long, Houston, Texas, granddaughter Lillian Long, Tuscaloosa, Alabama; grandsons Trent Long, Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Joshua Long, West Point, Georgia; sisters Ethel Bell, Alexander City, Alabama and June Ingram New, Hueytown, Alabama; nieces Mary Frances Robinson, Fay Robinson, Jeannie Cargile, Mae Dean Cox, Lee Sprenger, Jean Brown, Joan Robinson, Toni Chenault, Bobbie Hammonds, Nancy Hastey; nephews Jimmy Howell, Joseph Howell, David Howell and Bruce Ingram.
She is preceded in death by her parents Sarah Frances Howell and Ocie Cyle Howell; sisters Gertrude Lake, Elsie Gibson, Sallie Gilliland, Laurine Strain, Orvid Howell and Anna Dean Howell; brothers Jester Howell, Albert Howell and Kelley Howell; nieces Shirley Stearns, Janice House, Bernice Hunter and nephew Edward Bell.
Mrs. Long retired from South Central Bell Telephone Company in Selma, Alabama after 31 years of service. She was a loving wife and mother, a devoted sister and aunt. She adored her grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Howell, Robbie Robinson, Trent Long, Joshua Long, Nathan Brown and Joseph Howell.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sardis Baptist Church, Rockford, Alabama.
