Louis Ray "RW" Maurer of Selma, passed away at Baptist Hospital South on Friday, March 10, 2023 at the age of 67.
He was born in Selma, Alabama on March 27, 1955 to the late Eugene "Gene" Paul Maurer and the late Willie Mae Sewell Maurer.
"RW" began driving a gravel dump truck before the age of 20, later drove an 18 wheeler from coast to coast for the majority of his life and at one point even owned his own truck. When he was in his 50's he slowed down a bit by only driving asphalt and dump trucks locally. When he reached the age of 60 he finally retired from driving due to his health. "RW" was a faithful member of Valley Grande Baptist Church, he was someone who never met a stranger. He loved to cook. Even in the last years of his life as he was homebound, he continued to watch church services via social media and would cook as often as he was able. “RW” was a proud organ donor.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela (Michael) Del Busto; grandchildren, Melissa Del Busto, Jessica Del Busto, and Samantha Del Busto; sister, Dianne (Robert) Bates; nieces, Dewauna (Richard) Vinson and Darlene (Billy) Smith; great-nephews, Austin Vinson and Shane (Amanda) Vinson and their 3 children; and many other special friends that were there to help him with his needs anytime he called once he became homebound.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Maurer; and great-nephew, James Robert Johnson.
At the request of "RW", he will be cremated and did not wish to have a service. He did not want people crying over his earthly shell because he is already in Heaven.
Final care and arrangements have been entrusted to the Selma Funeral Home.
