Dr. Louis Daniel McMilion, Jr. died at the age of 76 after a long illness. Born and raised in Selma, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ryall (Boo) McMilion, daughter, Mary McMilion Hansell (Paul), and sons, Louis Daniel McMilion, III (Patti) and John Reid McMilion; five grandchildren: Paul C. Hansell, Jr., (Jodi) Margaret Hansell King (Jason), Sarah McMilion Clapp (Doug), Molli McMilion McDaniels (Dustin) and Peter Daniel McMilion; eight great-grandchildren: Taylor Adams Johnson, Amanda Lange Johnson, Reese McMilion Hansell, Matthew West King, John Paul King, Jason Ryall King, Annie Fields Clapp, and Nora Chapin Clapp; brother, Peter Cothran McMilion (Janet) of Unicoi, TN and brother-in-law, Dr. Caldwell DeBardeleben (Patty) as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lisa McMilion DeBardeleben, and parents, Louis Daniel McMilion and Elise Cothran McMilion Pearson. Louis was a proud member of both the Cothran and Vaughan families who were pioneer settlers of Dallas County. Born and raised in Selma where he was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church (now Cornerstone Presbyterian), he attended local public schools and graduated from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 1965. Louis returned to Selma to begin what would be his first ministry as a skilled and compassionate dentist. His exceptional ability and gentle hand will long be remembered by his many patients throughout Selma and Dallas County. He retired after 45 years to begin his second ministry in the creation of Selma CrossFit- a training and physical fitness program designed to build bodies and strengthen souls for living in today's world. His encouraging words were an inspiration to people of all ages and stages of life. Louis's incredible humor and sense of fun left rich memories with his children, grandchildren and many friends bringing smiles and laughter to all. His unconditional love provided a foundation to the next generations for reaching goals and fulfilling dreams. Louis lived his life faithfully and with a passion for each new day. His wit and wisdom added joy to every occasion - a joy that made the world a better place. Graveside services will be Tuesday morning at 11:00 in New Live Oak Cemetery with Judge Bob Armstrong officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing. There will be a visitation with family and friends following the service at Selma CrossFit, 910 Landline Road, Selma.
