Louise Gould

Mrs Louise LeVert McFaddin "Tootie" Gould died peacefully at Cedar Hill Assisted Living Facility in Selma, Alabama, on September 18, 2015, at the age of 96.

Mrs. Gould is survived by her daughter Grace Gould Hobbs (Ralph) of Selma and son Robert Heyward Gould (Laurie) of Montgomery; grandchildren Hugh Nicolson Hobbs (Bonnie) of Marion Junction, Robert Heyward Gould, Jr. (Katherine) of Tuscaloosa, Camilla Webber Gould Moss (Walker) of Birmingham Alexander Nelson Gould (Kelly) of Selma; great-grandchildren Lillie Howland Gould, Millinee Alexander Gould, William Webber Moss, Virginia Walker Moss and Hugh Sellers Hobbs; favorite cousins Page Sharp Jackson of St. Louis, Missouri, Beverly Sharp Amberg of Montgomery and Carol Carter Long of Washington, D.C.; devoted friends: goddaughter Margaret Elizabeth "Pokie" Trippe of Birmingham, neighbor Frances Bugg Revel of Montgomery and helpmeet, Earline Roller of Selma. She was preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter Aimée Louise Hobbs Gaddy.

Mrs. Gould was born in 1918 in Selma, Alabama, to Grace Louise Nelson McFaddin and Robert Heyward McFaddin. She attended Mrs. Strider's School, Dallas Academy, Selma Junior High School on Washington Street and Selma High School on Tremont Street. She graduated from the University of Alabama in 1941 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in History and French. In 1942 she married Captain Robert Austin Gould, Jr. who was stationed at Craig Air Force in Selma as an Air Force Instructor Pilot. After living for several years in Washington, D.C., she moved back to take care of her mother and raise her two children. She taught first grade at St. Paul's Episcopal School for ten years and third grade in the Selma Public School System, primarily at Meadowview Elementary, for eleven years. She was empathetic and caring teacher who loved her students and their families with whom she maintained contact through the years and generations.

Mrs. Gould was an active and dedicated member of the Kappa Delta sorority, the Trellis Garden Club and The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America. She was a life-long member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church where she was baptized, confirmed, married, and served as wedding coordinator, and from where she will be buried.

A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, September 21, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Selma. The family will receive friends in Saint Paul's lower parish hall beginning at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Jack Alvey will officiate and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home will direct. Burial will follow in Old Live Oak Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or a charity of choice. The family expresses gratitude to the caregivers at Vaughan Place Senior Living and Homestead Hospice for their compassionate care. The family also wishes to thank Mrs. Gould's many friends, young and old, whose frequent visits gave her so much pleasure.
