Lyle E. Waltz age 91 of Valley Grande, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at his home. He was born March 30, 1929 to the late Leslie and Lena Coy Waltz in Johnson County, Indiana. He was the fifth of ten siblings.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July 1948-July 1952 during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a firefighter for 28 years. His career as a firefighter started at Camp Atterburg, Indiana, then to Bakklar AFB, IN, to McConnell AFB, KS, to Vance AFB, OK, to Amarillo AFB, TX, to Craig AFB, AL, then retiring at Harlburt AFB, FL in 1979. He attained the position of Assistant Fire Chief during his career. After retiring from civil service, he worked at Disco Aluminum in Selma from 1979-1986. He drove a school bus for Dallas County Schools for 12 years, as well as having a lawn care business and church custodian at Memorial United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Frances "Frankie" Waltz; children, Stephen (Mable) Waltz, Jimmy (Debra) Waltz, Marty Waltz, and Tonya McCain; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Dale Waltz, Hershel Waltz, Dwight Waltz, Rheta (Herb) Cook; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Lena Waltz; children, Randy Waltz, David Waltz, and Debbie Love; step-daughter, Polly McWhorter; and four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 10 a.m. from the Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Linda Tarver officiating.
Interment will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mark Smedley, Vito Tomasello, John McCain, Lyle McCain, Otis Bender, and Wayne Stewart.
Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Memorial United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 from 5-7 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
