Margaret Anne Gamble passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023, at the age of 56. She was born October 12, 1966, to Dave and Anne Gamble of Selma.
Born with Down Syndrome, Margaret lived a long and full life. She spent most of her adult life at the Earl Goodwin Group Home and participated in daily activities at the Cahaba Mental Health Center in Selma. Her love of music and family was on display at all moments regardless of who she was with. She is said to have had the world’s largest CD collection and she knew every artist and every song in her vast collection. Most songs she could sing, although not necessarily in tune! She adored her brothers and sister and would gladly tag along to any event they were going to. She excelled at Special Olympics which was an annual event she looked forward to and had the trophies to prove it! She was eager to demonstrate her proficiency in the “fast walk” to anyone that would join her on the track at Memorial Stadium. Margaret never forgot a birthday, including her own. She notified her close relatives each year with a phone call reminding them “I have a birthday next month!” She was equally as punctual with birthday wishes for her brothers and sister. Margaret was a bright light for all that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her nephew Tracey Real. She is survived by her brother Alison L. Gamble, half-brother Davis R. (Dave) Gamble Jr. (Patricia), half-sister Kathy Gamble Real; nephews and nieces Jeremy Gamble (Shelbie), Brandon Gamble, Heather Real West, Kevin W. Gamble (Lindsey), and Keith Jacks Gamble (Lauren).
The family would like to thank Cahaba Mental Health Center, the Earl Goodwin Group Home staff and Tammy Till for all the years of care they gave Margaret. Also, a special thanks to Haven Memory Care in Gulf Shores, AL, Eastern Shore Rehabilitation and Healthcare, and Comfort Care Hospice in Daphne, AL.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma with Reverend Amy George officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. A reception honoring the life and legacy of Margaret Gamble will be held in the fellowship hall of St Paul’s Episcopal Church following the service.
