Martha Prince Strickland of Selma passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma at the age of 85.
Martha was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 22, 1937 to the late James L. Prince and the late Ruby Seales Prince.
She was the former owner and operator of The Warehouse in Selma. She was also a pilot and also probably the first female to, in the men's world of racing, to race at Daytona back in the 1950s when it was a dirt track on the beach. Martha lived a full and overflowing life with generations remembering her as their other mother that always kept them within their boundaries and in check on Friday and Saturday nights. She will be missed by all that knew her.
Martha is survived by her children, Sam Evans Strickland (Cheryl), Misti Parker (Jim), Jim Lundie (Diana), Bob Strickland, and Susan Harper (Jim); grandchildren, Ian, Amelia, Jamie Susanne, Matthew, and Jake; great-grandchildren, Howston, Layla, and Madelyn; Peanut, the weenie dog; and other family members that include, Shelia Brown (Ray) and Sylvester "Foots" Dennis.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard H. Strickland; parents, James L. and Ruby S. Prince; and siblings, Murray Prince and Carolyn Pittman.
A celebration of Martha's life will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Selma Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday beginning at 10:00 a.m..
