Mary Scott Howell Albrecht, age 95 died on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Cumberland Pointe Health Care in West Lafayette, Indiana. A Southerner by birth, Mary Scott moved to Indiana in October, 2011to be with her children and their families.
Mary Scott was born on August 24, 1919 in Duncan, Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Everette Blewett Howell and Mary Weissinger Howell. She grew up in Mississippi and graduated from Hale County High School in Moundville, Alabama, moving to Selma in 1939. Mary Scott attended Alabama College (now University of Montevallo) and graduated in 1941 with a B.A.in Secretarial Science and Speech.
Mary Scott was married to John Roland Albrecht April 27, 1946 in the Church Street United Methodist Church in Selma and they celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to his death in 1997
Mary Scott was an integral part of the Selma community, enjoying personal and professional relationships in numerous facets of the area. Mary Scott worked in the Quartermaster Office at Craig Field during World War II. After her marriage she taught in the Selma City Schools for 25 years, working at Tremont and Edgewood Schools prior to her retirement. She was an active member of the Church Street United Methodist Church, the Mary Sweeney Friendship Class, The Berrey-Plant Circle, The Gideon International, Selma Community Concert Association, West End Study Club, Trellis Garden Club, Alpha Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Pandora Dance Club, Retired Teachers Organization, Selma Charity League and Selma Country Club.
Mary Scott enjoyed playing bridge and was active in numerous bridge groups through the years. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends and family. Mary Scott was the rock of her family. She was always supportive and could be depended on to share in the happy and sad times of life. She was always at the ready to travel to Indiana to enjoy one of her grandchildren's special occasions and they looked forward to her visits.
She is survived by her children Everette Albrecht (Sharon), and Mary Albrecht Mills (W.L.) of West Lafayette, Indiana and their children Jessica, Mark (Susanne), Michelle, and Michael Albrecht and Everette (Megan), Brad (Meghan) and Grant (Kelsey) Mills, nephews Bill (Helen) Taylor of Colorado, Scott (Jane) Taylor of Prattville, Allen Taylor of Montgomery, Mark (Jo) Taylor and Dan (Kay) Taylor of Selma. Mary Scott also had three great grandchildren-Jonathan Mills, Olivia Albrecht and Harper Mills who were her pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Albrecht, her parents, two sisters Margarie Howell Taylor and Margaret Howell and brother Everette Blewett Howell.
Visitation will be Friday, September 5 from 5:00-8:00PM at the Lawrence Brown Funeral Home in Selma.. Internment at the New Live Oak Cemetery will be at 9:00AM for the family on Saturday, followed by a celebration of Mary Scott's life at the Church Street United Methodist Church at 10:30 , Pallbearers will be her nephews Scott, Allen, Mark and Dan Taylor, great nephew John Allen Taylor and Mel Gilmer, family friend .
