Mary Godbold

Funeral services for Mary Emma Goldbold will be held at the Camden United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 16, 2011. She was ninety four years old. Interment will follow at the Camden Cemetery. The Reverends Ed Shirley and Lowell Thomas will officiate.
Mary Godbold was the widow of Stanley David Godbold, Sr., District judge of Wilcox County who died August 24, 1979. She was the daughter of Narcissa Goree McDowell and William Peyton Harris, both Pioneer families of Wilcox County. Survivors include three children, Nancy Mirkhesti (Akbar) of Marietta, Georgia; Donald Godbold of Camden, Alabama and Derek Godbold (Kendra) of Gulf Shores, Alabama. She was preceded in death by one son, David Godbold. Grandchildren include Zachary Godbold, Joshua Godbold, Wesley Godbold, Holley Mirkhesti, Bijan Mirkhesti. Great grandchildren are Lily Godbold, Paige Godbold, Ella Godbold and Emma Clair Godbold. She is also survived by her younger sister, Sara Narcissa Harris.
Mrs. Godbold was a graduate of the University of Montevallo. She taught English at Orrville High School in Dallas County and worked with the State Employment Service, the Department of Human Resources and Alabama Tombigbee Regional Commission.
She was a member of Daughters of American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, Daughters of the American Colonies, the Jamestown Society, the Order of the Crown, and the Magna Charter Society. She was a devoted member of the Camden United Methodist church where she worked with the youth center, taught Sunday School and wrote a monthly column ���Mary Remembers���.
She was a lover of daylilies and grew many beautiful specimens in her garden. She also had an interest in genealogy and did quite a lot of research in this area. She loved her family and repeatedly said, ���God blessed her with best husband and children in the world���. She loved people, never met a stranger and was caring and compassionate.
