Mary Alice Massey Pierce, age 93, of Selma, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, August 28th, 2021, following a brief illness.
She was born October 3, 1927, in Sprott, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late James Moore and Alvis Morris Massey. She married her sweetheart, Bradford Ellis Pierce, on September 27, 1945. They were married 54 years until his death in 1999.
Mary was a caring, loving, and supportive military spouse alongside her husband, MSGT Bradford E. Pierce, as he served 30 years in the USAF. She raised and cared for their four children while traveling the world and maintaining their household as her husband served his country on tours in Vietnam and Korea. She also participated in various volunteer organizations on the military bases where they were assigned.
She lived a life grounded by family and friends. She loved hosting large gatherings of family and friends at her home for Christmas and Thanksgiving. She loved sharing her cooking, canning, and her homegrown vegetables. She loved growing plants and flowers, and giving cuttings to everyone who visited her. She will be greatly missed. All her shared knowledge and skills will remain in our lives and memories forever.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, Doris Quarles, her brother, James Massey and her daughter-in-law, Barbara Pierce.
She is survived by her four children, James (Deborah) Pierce, Walter (Linda) Pierce, Thomas Pierce, and Martha (Glenn) Hollingshead; her grandchildren James (Tracy) Pierce, Brad Pierce, Holly (Brian) Strickland, Paul (Holley) Pierce, Doshia (Kirk) Sims, Tom (Shannon) Pierce, Courtney (Tut) Helms, Ashley (Cobie) Stephens, Heather (Nick) Stevens, Heath (Lora) Hollingshead, Heidi (Kenneth) Strahm; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Pierce, Cole Pierce, Thomas Hollingshead, Kenneth Strahm, Paul Pierce, Brian Strickland and Josh Strickland.
The family is accepting flowers or donations to ECAD (Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities) in her memory. ECAD is a non-profit organization that helps enable people with disabilities to gain greater independence and mobility through the use of specially educated dogs. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Pineview Memory Gardens in Valley Grande, Alabama.
