Nellie Chance

July 7, 1926 — February 13, 2011

Nellie ���Nell��� G. Chance, born July 7, 1926 suddenly departed this life for her heavenly home on February 13, 2011. She was a devoted Daughter, Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Friend. Mrs. Chance was fondly referred to as ���Momma Nell��� because of her unending kindness and generosity to all whom had the pleasure of knowing her. Her nature was one of pure caring and her ability to touch people���s lives was profound. She was a woman of strong will and poured her energy into her family as well as her work as a Nurse Anesthetist. The lives she touched with compassion, coupled with the tenacity she maintained, made many view her as a pioneer in her field. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Jenny (Ronnie) Hall, Foley, AL; her Granddaughter, Allison (Riece) Walton, Pensacola, FL; her Great- Grandson, Chance Hart, Pensacola, FL; Sister Willine G. Childree, Marion, AL; Sister and Best Buddy, Naomi G. Lockhart, Montgomery, AL; former Daughter-in-law and dear friend, Kathy Chance Hughes, Pleasant Hill, AL; Sisters-in law Doris Chance, Selma, AL and Jean Chance, Dublin, CA; and numerous Nieces, Nephews, loving Church family, as well as many loyal friends and neighbors. Mrs. Chance is preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Roy Chance, Sr; her infant Son Boyd Chance; her Son Elbert Roy Chance, Jr.; her Father William Robert Godwin and Mother Alma Dansby Godwin; her Brothers-in law Lee, Lawrence, Lamar, Ray, John Melvin, Floyd and Edwin Earl Chance, and Joe Hardy; her Sisters-in law Alberta Foster and Velma Hardy. A celebration of life ceremony will take place on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church, Selma, AL at 2:00 p.m., Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing with Dr. Cecil Williamson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Church service. Graveside services will immediately follow at the New Live Oak Cemetery, Selma, AL. Serving as Pallbearers will be Ronnie Hall, Riece Walton, Robert Floyd, John Powell, Joe Davis and Josh Pouncey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Curtis Harvell, John Presley, Richard Walker, Russell Foster, Brian Hughes, and Ben Bender. Memorials may be sent by way of flowers or donations made in memory of Mrs. Nell Chance to the Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church, 100 Crescent Hill Drive, Selma, AL, 36701-6837.
