Mildred Rebecca Cross, who was born August 18, 1942, in Birmingham, AL, passed away May 26, 2008 in Decatur, AL.
Ms. Cross was preceded in death by her father, Austin Cross, her "Daddy," Floyd L. Simmons, her mother, Lennis Dill Cross Simmons and her husband Floyd Massey.
She is survived by her daughter, Belinda Massey (Jimmy) Powell, who cared for her mother so lovingly and faithfully during her illness; her sons, Floyd Eugene Massey and Jimmy Austin (Mary) Massey; grandchildren, Adam Page, Joshua (Brandi) Page, David Massey and Daniel (Erika) Massey, Niki Massey and great-grandchildren, Cameron Massey and Christian Massey; and three sisters, Ruth Cross (Glynn) Smyly, Pat Cross (Tom) Yawn and Frances Simmons Hughes; four nieces, Rhonda S. (Marty) Ogren, Lisa Y. (Dwayne) Wilkinson, Gina Y. (Eric) Rogers, Cristina Hughes (Brian) Rice, and their children.
Rebecca was widowed at the age of 23 with three young children to raise. She earned her LPN and worked several years before returning to school at Wallace Community College, Selma, for her RN degree. Rebecca's nursing career spanned over thirty years. Her loving care touched many sick and dying patients, as well as their families. She continued nursing until her health failed.
A dearly beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and sister, she will be missed by many.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Elder James E. Powell, Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Pineview Memory Gardens with Selma Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12-2:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Adam Page, Joshua Page, David Massey, Jim Griggs, Brian Rice and Marty Ogren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society's Joe Lee Griffin Hope Lodge, 1100 Ireland Way #300, Birmingham, AL. 35205.
