Reuben Pickens, Jr.

June 3, 1928 — March 19, 2022

Reuben P. Pickens, Jr. age 93 of Selma, went home to meet his Lord while surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at his home.

He was born to Reuben P. Pickens, Sr. and Ruth Rogers Pickens on June 3, 1928 in Lilburn, Georgia.

He was retired from Kraft Foods. Mr. Pickens served in the United States Army, he was a lifelong member of the Masons, and also a faithful member of Elkdale Baptist Church in Selma.

Mr. Pickens met the love of his life, Betty, in 1949 and they were married on May 8, 1953. They were married nearly 70 years.

He leaves behind his daughter, Sherri P. (Dan) Smith; grandson, Matthew (Kaylie) Smith; great-grandchildren, Justice Smith, Stormy Smith, and Silas Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Cook Pickens; parents, Reuben and Ruth Pickens; siblings, Bill Pickens, Louie Pickens, and Joyce Pickens; and a nephew, Roger Pickens.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Southern Care Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Mr. Pickens during this time and also three very special sitters, Rebecca Cox, Judy McCreary, and Vera Lynn Aaron.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Pineview Memory Gardens in Valley Grande with Rev. Guy Anderson officiating.

There will be no visitation, everyone please meet in the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Elkdale Baptist Church.

Final care and arrangements have been faithfully entrusted to the care of Selma Funeral Home.
