He was preceded in death by his brothers, T. J. Boozer, Fred Boozer and David Boozer and his sister, Virginia Cosby.
Surviving are his wife, Eunice Boozer; sons, Richard Lee (Allyson) Boozer and Donald Wayne Boozer; daughter, Melanie Boozer Henry; brother, Billy Boozer; sisters, Julia Reed and Frances Kotis; grandchildren, Angie (Guy) Freeman, Lee Boozer, Kelly Meiklejohn, Whitney Hawkins, Shane Boozer, Dawn (Bart) Bowles and Dean (Allison) Smith; great-grandchildren, Jarrod and Justin Brewer, Jessica and Guy Freeman, Abigale Johnson, Faith Hawkins, Meredith and Cole Smith, Clayton and Caroline Bowles and Morgan Humphries numerous nieces and nephews, close friend and cousin, Winston Mosley.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Henry officiating. Interment will be in New Live Oak Cemetery with Selma Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1-2:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Dick Boozer, Bobby Boozer, David Boozer, Ricky Howell, Jack Smitherman, Shane Boozer, and Lee Boozer. Honorary pallbearers will be the Maverick Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.
Melvin was in the U. S. Army Corps. 97th Troop Carrier Squadron Group in the European Theatre where he served as a flight engineer and flight chief in Europe from 1942 to 1946. He was in seven major battles which included Normandy, Northern France, Southern France, Rome-Arno, Rhineland Campaign, Ardennes Campaign and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal and Distinguished Unit Medal. He also received one silver and two bronze medals for service in European-African Middle Eastern battle.
