SFC Richard Clint Green, Sr. , USA, Retired of Autaugaville, Alabama and formerly of Loxley, Alabama passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the age of 83. He was born March 3, 1939 to the late Lester Pettus Green and Myrtle Lee Bridges.
Richard joined the Alabama National Guard, then served in the U.S. Army from November of 1955 before retiring on July 31, 1981 as Sergeant First Class, obtaining countless letters of appreciation and letters of commendations. He received Five Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Four Overseas Service Bars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with One Silver Service Star and Three Bronze Service Stars. His service included being stationed in Alaska, Hawaii, Germany and
Vietnam. After his military service, he was a prison guard for the State of Alabama, where he met his wife, Virginia. He was a long-time member of Styx River Baptist Church in Robertsdale.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia Weidie Green; stepfather, Buster Broughton; siblings, Evelyn (Emile “Black”) Hotard, W.C. Green, Mollie Mary Beatrice (Jimmie) Allen, Nannie Mae (Calvin) Johnston, Frances Faye (James Murphy) Sealy, Emma Lee (Jack) Foman, Walter Oliver Green, Daisy Lou (Elie) Naquin; brother-in-law, Ivey Bourg.
He is survived by his children, Richard Green, Jr., and Joseph Green; step-children, Scott Ziska, James Ziska and Kristi Bryant; grandchildren, Mayme Green, Claudia Green, step-grandchildren, Jillian, Katherine, Ellie, James II, Myah, Britnea, Laurin, and Devin; step-great-grandchildren, Micah, Gavin, Kaden, Dawson, and Parker; sister, Jeanette “Nett” Bourg; sister-in-law, Fannie Mae Green and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, including his niece, Melissa (Donald “Scooter”) Tyus, along with Tater, who have cared for him since his wife passed away just a few months ago, as well as his nephew, Billy Green and niece, Annette Green who lended a helping hand when needed.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home in Selma. Funeral services will be Friday, December 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Alabama National Cemetery with full military honors, with Rev. Randy Sirmon officiating.
Pallbearers will be members of the United States Army Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald “Scooter” Tyus, Landen “Tater” Tyus, Billy Green, Wayne Allen, Ronnie Sealy, Kenneth Martin and Alex Waters.
