Richard Steven Webster

February 21, 1954 — February 10, 2025

Richard Steven “Steve” Webster, a loving husband, devoted father, and skilled mechanic, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, at the age of 70. His vibrant spirit and enduring love will be deeply missed by his family, extended family, and countless friends.

Steve’s life was a thrilling journey fueled by a lifelong passion for speed and engines. This passion was ignited in his youth by his father, Robert “Pop” Webster, a respected mechanic instructor at Wallace Community College and mechanic for renowned race car driver Bobby Allison. This early exposure instilled in Steve a profound appreciation for both the intricate mechanics and exhilarating thrill of racing. This passion led him to victory in the 1974 Alabama State Motocross Championship, a testament to his talent and competitive spirit.

In 1980 Steve married Rhonda, embracing the role of stepfather to Kelly and Allyson with dedication and love. Then in 1985 in Silverhill, Alabama, where a friendship with Ray Byrd, owner of a stock car, led to Steve becoming the driver of the #55 Camaro at Five Flags Speedway and Mobile Speedway. Countless weekends were spent circling the track, showing his commitment to the sport. His passion extended beyond the road; he also pursued his love of flying, often traveling to racetracks in the southeast to compete in races, Orlando to visit family or just putting around with friends over the skies of Selma. A true entrepreneur, he established All American Trailers Manufacturing, achieving remarkable success. His ingenuity even landed him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest pulled utility trailer in the world, a feat accomplished using one of his own trailers, aptly named the Shuttle, with the assistance of Bobby Allison driving his son’s car, Davey Allison, at Talladega Superspeedway.

The arrival of his son, Kyle, further solidified his greatest joy. Kyle was the light of Steve’s life. He instilled in Kyle his love for racing, teaching him to race go-karts and motorcycles, and sharing his vast mechanical expertise. Beyond his mechanical skills, Steve was a self-taught guitarist, bringing joy to his family and friends with his musical talent.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Pop" Webster, and his mother, Lady Webster. He is survived by his ex-wife and best friend, Rhonda; his beloved son, Kyle; his stepchildren, Kelly “Leroy” Brown and Allyson; and his beloved brothers, Robert “Dinky” (Marta), Scott, Stacy and beloved sister, Tracy Webster and his niece Stephanie, a great nephew, Ashton and great niece, Taylor. He is also survived by the Sanders family of which there are too many to name. He was truly a brother, uncle, and granddad to each of them. His life was a testament to his unwavering dedication to family and his infectious enthusiasm for life. He will be remembered for his mechanical prowess, his unconditional love, and the countless memories he created with those closest to him.
