He was preceded in death by his parents, R. J. "Jack" and Mildred Keith Chandler; mother-in-law, Margie E. St. Clair and father-in-law, Thurman G. (Madelyn Pharr) Glass.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanine G. Chandler; son, Robert Jackson "Bay" Chandler, III and his wife, Ann; sister, Miriam (James) Bearden; grandchildren, Georgia Ann Chandler and Lilla Bay Chandler; and sister-in-law, Patricia (Harold) Smith, and nieces and nephews, Harold E. (Lynelle) Smith, III, Pamela Denise (Marc) Ivey, Jeffrey T. (Jennifer) Smith, Matthew M. (Meg) Smith, James Allen (Carrie) Bearden, Jr. and Jonathan Ross (Gwen) Bearden.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Father Carrol Plourde officiating. Interment will be in Pineview Memory Gardens with Selma Funeral Home directing. The family received friends at the funeral home Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from 6-8:00 p.m.
The United States Army Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold E. Smith, Jeffrey T. Smith, Matthew M. Smith, James Allen Bearden, Jr., Jonathan Ross Bearden, Harold Logsdon, Dale Nevendors, Alton Heathcot, Phil Clayton, Bill Putney, Bobby Gilbert, Colonel Sammy Carr, Gunner Hall, Mike Hall, Steve Ashley and "Doc" Holiday.
Bobby graduated from Albert G. Parrish High School in 1967. He also graduated from Livingston University and then received his Master's Degree in Public Administration from Jacksonville State University. He also attended the United States War College and became a certified sailing captain. He was a retired colonel from the U. S. Army National Guard Reserves.
He was an Eagle Scout of Troop 29 in the Bill Crane District and a member of the Order of the Arrow. His first job was District Scout Executive for Selma. He was also a member of WPCA for forty years and was a retired manager from Limestone County Water Works.
Bobby loved camping and sailing and was an avid reader. His greatest joy was time spent with his grandchildren and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to Valley Grande Baptist Church Children's Ministry, 48 County Road 16, Valley Grande, AL 36701 or Our Lady Queen of Peace Children's Ministry, 309 Washington Street, Selma, AL 36701.
