Robert "Bobby" Eugene Burnett left his earthly home on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the age of 71. He was born on June 8, 1953, in Mobile, Alabama, to the late Dollie and Belton Burnett.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Trevor Shotack.
He is survived by his loving wife of fourteen years, Shirley Burnett; son, Chad Burnett; daughters, Christy (Scott) Pope and Clarice Hall; nine grandchildren, Megan Burnett, Chasedy Warren, Michaelyn Kemmett, Cori Drummond, Christian Pope, Carson Cardwell, Mackenzie Cardwell, Reagan Cardwell, and D.J. Cardwell; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Burnett; sisters, Gloria Dennington and Diane (Otey) Crisman; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was born in Mobile, Alabama, and grew up in Tyler, where he graduated from Southside High School in 1971. He enjoyed dove shoots and deer hunting on his family's land, especially with his son and brother. Afterward, they would enjoy some of his mama's fried chicken. Later, he moved to the Montgomery area, where he enjoyed an 18-year career with Winn-Dixie Corporation.
Later on, he moved to the Rockford, Alabama, area where he worked as a supervisor at Avondale Mills for many years. During that time, he enjoyed gardening, raising animals, and hunting. Eventually, he moved to the Gulf Shores area, where he loved fishing trips with his brother, son, and grandson. He loved all things Alabama football and especially enjoyed attending games with his family. He enjoyed his job as a security guard at various condominiums, talking to guests from all over the states visiting the beach, and watching the sunset over the Gulf Coast. He loved when his children and grandchildren came to visit and enjoyed taking them on dolphin trips, crabbing, and fishing. He enjoyed attending Lagoon Baptist Church with his wife, Shirley. They loved their pets, Desicha and George. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Sister Springs Baptist Church in Tyler, Alabama with Pastor Otey Crisman officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church, beginning at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Chad Burnett, Kenneth Burnett, Carson Cardwell, D.J. Cardwell, Tyson Crisman and Brian Crisman
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of The Retreat at SAAD Hospice in Mobile for their loving care.
