Robert Austin

December 22, 1928 — July 4, 2015

SMSGT Robert J. Austin, age 86, of Seminole, AL and formerly of Selma, AL, passed away July 4, 2015 in the company of his loving family. He was born in Old Town, ME and raised in Milford, ME where he graduated from Old Town High School in 1947. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Wallace Community College in Selma, AL, where he worked for the U. S. Postal Service for 10 years. Robert was a twenty-six year veteran with the U. S. Air Force with service in Korea and Viet Nam. He will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He was a member of the VFW, The American Legion, Elks #167 of Selma, Air Force Sergeants Association, Masonic Lodge of Selma #926 and Alcazar Shrine in Montgomery, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Doll Rugan Austin; brothers, George M. Austin, Jr. and Phillip Austin and sons-in-law, Philip Dow and Gary Cox. Surviving are his wife of sixty-four years, Doris L. Austin; children, Cathy Dow, Leah Austin, Zeke (Cindy) Austin, Sue Cox and Bruce Austin; sister, Ann Marie Severance; grandchildren, Josh Austin, Loren Austin and Jason (Summer) Cox; four great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. At Robert's request, there will be no services.
