Robert "Bobby" Driggers

Robert Stephen Driggers (Bobby) entered heaven on Sunday, October 9th, 2022 at the age of 66.

Bobby is survived by his wife and anchor for 36 years Susan Jones Driggers, his two daughters, Elizabeth Avery Driggers and Caroline Cook Driggers, his sisters Mary Beth Driggers Bradley and Laurie Driggers Manderson and more family and friends that felt like family than we can count.

Bobby was born March 8, 1956 in Selma, Alabama, to Billy and Elizabeth Driggers. He graduated from Morgan Academy in 1974 after playing every sport they offered and breaking just about every bone in his body along the way. Despite rooting for the Crimson Tide, Bobby attended Auburn University where he joined the Kappa Alpha Order and cemented many of the friendships that he would hold dear for the rest of his life.

After years of his mother worrying that he’d be a bachelor forever, Bobby finally found his match with Susan Jones. They met on a blind date at an Alabama - Auburn football game — only later would Bobby discover Susan didn’t actually care much for the sport. The two moved to Birmingham where they raised their girls, Avery and Caroline, in a home filled with songs, laughter, delicious meals and lively debate.

Bobby had a soaring tenor voice and a deep love for singing that he shared with the rest of his family. He would often perform with his two sisters — they themselves a gifted alto and soprano — and he had a longstanding competition with his father on who could sing loudest in the church choir. Some of Avery and Caroline’s most cherished memories are singing along to Jay and The Americans in the car, trying to find the right harmony to match Daddy’s.

Bobby was a man of strong conviction. He built his life and shaped his family on a foundation of Christian faith. He lived his core values of loyalty, honesty and integrity and instilled them into his precious daughters.

He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, and friend. He was a wonderful storyteller who lived a life so full of joy that it touched all of us lucky enough to know and love him.
