Roger Allen Stone, Sr. passed away July 17, 2023 at the age of 65. He was born February 8, 1958 to James Howell Stone and the late Janet Bennett Stone.
Roger was born and raised in Selma. He loved spending time with his family, including his three beloved sons, his grandchildren, his siblings, and his numerous nieces and nephews. Roger was a tinkerer; he loved tinkering around on cars and using his hands to make all types of repairs. His greatest joy later in life was his three grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Big Poppa” or just “Poppa”, Roger was a staple at every important school, church, and sporting event that his grandchildren participated in. Roger was a man of few words, but he made sure to let those in his life know how much he loved them. He ended every phone call with an “I love you” and every visit with a hug. Roger worked at the International Paper Riverdale Mill for 34 years.
Roger was preceded in death by his son, Roger Allen Stone, Jr; sister, Barbara Barlow; mother, Janet Bennett Stone and father-in-law, Floyd Nelson Barnett.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jackie Stone of Selma; father, James Howell Stone of Perry County; sons, Ryan (Meredith) Stone of Selma and Wesley (Arlene) Stone of Prattville; grandchildren, Avery Ryan Stone, Carter Ray Stone and Grayson Arthur Stone; sister, Bonnie (Mike) Fox of Valley Grande; Randall Stone of Valley Grande; mother-in-law, Nell Barnett of Daphne and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
