Roy Winston Stone, 76, of Route 6, Selma, passed away on February 5, 2010, after a lengthy illness. Born December 28, 1933, the youngest of seven children, to Marion and Etta Stone, in Perry County near Pisgah. Stone began his career in l955 with Southern Bell and retired from the telephone company, by that time known as BellSouth, after 39 years of faithful service. After his retirement in l994, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He found pleasure each afternoon watching the sunset over the pond behind his home with his devoted wife. He was preceded in death his parents; sisters, Dean Stone Gandy and Frances Stone Prescott; and brother, Jack Stone. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia (Pat) Twilley Stone; their three children, Dianne Stone Nichols (Charles) of Sprott, Roy, Jr. (Judy) of Southaven, Miss.; and Dennis of Meridian, Miss.; their seven grandchildren, Sheree Moorman (Jason), Hernando, Miss.; Carly Nichols, Nashville, Tenn.; Megan Nichols, Anniston; Patrick Stone (Candi), Grenada, Miss., Ashley Sellars (Jared), Auburn; Chase Stone , Selma, and Evan Stone, Selma; and his first great grandchild who will be born in August 2010 to Sheree and Jason; brothers, W. C. Stone, (Martha), Hueytown; Thomas Stone (Sylvia), Selma; Howell Stone (Janet), Selma; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Noland Hospital at DCH Regional Hospital in Tuscaloosa, for their kind and compassionate care for the past three months. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 8, 2010, at 11:00 am at the Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Danny Sumerlin will officiate. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Patrick, Chase and Evan Stone, Jason Moorman, and Jared Sellars; and nephews, Randall and Roger Stone. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 7, 2010, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
