Russell L. Wimer of Clanton, Alabama passed away January 21st after a brief illness. Born in Beetown, Wisconsin in 1920, he enlisted in the Army Air Force in September of 1941. After completing Aircraft Mechanic school at Kessler AFB, Biloxi, Miss. Russell was stationed in Italy and served as aerial engineer in the European theater of operations until discharged in January 1946. Later, Russell served his country as TSgt in the Air Force Reserve. After military service and operating his own business in Wisconsin, he then moved to Selma, Al. where he was the shop foreman for an automotive dealership. Hired into Civil Service at Chanute AFB in March of 1952, Russell also served as dock chief from 1957 until 1959 when he was transferred to the training division. In 1968 Russell was promoted in that unit and worked until retirement. In 2000 Russell and his wife of 61 years moved to Clanton for retirement. Russell is preceded in death by his wife Thelma Scarborough Wimer and is survived by many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 29, 2010 at New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
