Ruth Carter Britton, 88, of Selma, AL passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2016. Funeral will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2016, 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Charles Sheppard officiating and burial following at New Live Oak Cemetery.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Britton was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph Donald (Donnie) Britton, Sr., her son, Joseph Donald (Joe) Britton, Jr., and granddaughter, Stephanie Small Urrea.
Mrs. Britton is survived by daughters, Mary Ruth Small (Billy) of Gulf Breeze, FL, and Barbara Miles (Glenn) of Selma, AL; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Britton Alexander (Mike) of Selma, AL; her dearly loved cousins: Patty Joyce Sheppard and Bobby Roy Roseberry; grandchildren: William Dennis Small, IV, April Small Tomas', Bobbi Jo Small Paraiso, Doni Marie Small Sanchez, Michael Britton, Melissa Britton Vardaman, Anna Anderson, and Brittony Anderson Henderson; and many great grandchildren.
Ruth accepted Jesus Christ at a young age and was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church. She loved to study her Bible and enjoyed teaching God's Word in Sunday School and Bible studies at Warren Manor Nursing Home. She was a generous supporter of charities, missions, children, and veterans.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Miles, Billy Small, Dennis Small, Mike Britton, Mike Alexander, and Jimmy Ellison.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to your favorite charity.
