Ruth Key Sammon Maxwell, 94, of Selma, AL died September 29, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Mary Camp Sammon and Guy Alvin Sammon, brother, Charles Veezy Sammon; and husband, Eugene Knox Maxwell. Mrs. Maxwell is survived by her children, Marjorie Key Maxwell Swift, Charles Eugene Maxwell, and Diane Knox Maxwell Richardson; grandchildren, Ruth Key Swift Newberry, William Pope Swift IV, John Furniss Maxwell, Christian Key Maxwell Harris, Key Lazenby Richardson Hudson, Emory Knox Richardson, and Knox Randolph Richardson; great grandchildren, Grace Ann Swift, Elizabeth Lea Swift, and Lillian Key Hudson; and a special friend and caregiver for 19 years, Mayme King.
Mrs. Maxwell was born August 9, 1919 in Thomson, GA. She attended Agnes Scott College and graduated from the University of Georgia where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.
Mrs. Maxwell was a member and officer in many patriotic organizations including Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of 1812, Colonial Dames XVII Century, Daughters of the American Colonist, National Society of Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America, Dames of the Court of Honor, Daughters of Huquenot Society of the Founders of Manakin in the Colony of Virginia, Daughters of Colonial Wars, Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, Colonial Daughters of the Seventeenth Century, Magna Charta Dames, Royal Crown of Charlamagne, Three Crusades.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at New Live Oak Cemetery with Rev. M. Sydney McCollum officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Sturdivant Museum Association, P.O. Box 1205, Selma, AL 36702.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Cedar Hill Assisted Living Facility and Warren Manor Nursing Home for their excellent care.
