Ruth Newsome

Margaret Ruth Henley Newsome, 93 of Selma, died Friday, February 23, 2018 at home. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at New Live Oak Cemetery with Rev. Ken Autrey and Rev. Steve Kopp officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Monday, February 26, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1924 to the late Cornelius Augustus and Evie Lee Frith Henley. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 62 years, Johnnie Newsome, Sr.; siblings, Ruby (Tobe) Chandler, Eurydice (Tom) Kelly, Lillian (Troy) Brannon, Gussie (Scott) Caldwell, Claude (Mildred) Henley and Curt Henley.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Harrell) Watts; son, Johnnie “Skeeter” (Carrie Ann) Newsome, Jr.; grandchildren, Billy (Terri) Watts, Peggy (Andy) Tipton, Fielding Watts, April (Bo) Bergloff, Stephen (Jennifer) Newsome and Amber (Jason) Tomlinson; fifteen great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Ruby Henley.

Active pallbearers will be Ruth’s grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make memorial donations to Union Methodist Church, c/o Gail Willis 742 County Road 919; Sardis, Alabama 36775 or your favorite charity.
