Sadie Lorine Bedgood died Wednesday, April 29, 2009 after an extended illness. Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery with Reverend Fred Zeigler officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. She was preceded in death by her parents-John Franklin Bennett and Edna Baker Bennett and her husband of sixty-two years-James Etheridge Bedgood, Sr. She is survived by one son, James Etheridge Bedgood, Jr., his wife Gale, two grandchildren, James Etheridge (Jamie) Bedgood, III and Elizabeth Bedgood Gamble and her husband Robert, one great grandchild, William Colgate Gamble and a special nephew Powell Morris Bedgood, III, his wife Melinda and their two children Lisa and Maggie. Other survivors include her sisters-in-law Juanita Prendergast, Susan (Charles) Stover, Tomilu (Joe) Braxton, Jane (Gary) Morris, brothers-in-law Charles Bedgood, David (Sylvia) Bedgood and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Robert Beers, John Christian, Byrd Looper, Charles Pollack, Jim Sims, Ray Thomas, Rex Waldrop and B. Lee Youngblood.
Born on October 5, 1922, she was the only child of John and Edna Bennett. In 1945, Mrs. Bedgood moved to Selma with her husband and young son. The family became actively involved in community activities including cub scouts, school PTA, Little League baseball and pee wee football. Mr. and Mrs. Bedgood were involved in Riverfront Market for over thirty years serving as entertainment chairpersons and on the Board of Directors. She was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church, the Mary Sweeney Friendship Class, Epicurean Club and the Friday Bridge Club.
