Sara Hamby

Sara Lyon Hamby, age 89, of Selma, AL, passed away February 4, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James C. Griffith and Samuel F. Hamby; parents, Julian and Buford Sadler Lyon, two sisters and granddaughter, Ashley Marie Griffith. Surviving are her children, James (Pam) Griffith, David (Barbara) Griffith and Vicki (Bill) Bennett; sister, Barbara (James) Winters; grandchildren, Scott (Rikkee) Griffith, Kristieanne Grantham, Grant (Julie) Griffith, Amanda (Chris) Ross, Rachael (Justin) Sumerlin, Chad (Blair) Bennett and Laura Whitney (Stephen) Howorth; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Sara was a member of First Baptist Church of Selma, AL and a member of Selma Emblem Club #376. Funeral services will be Friday, February 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Michael Brooks officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be in Pineview Memory Gardens with Selma Funeral Home directing. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and the staff of Park Place Rehabilitation. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Gideon's International, 1710 Pepperell Parkway, Opelika, AL, 36801.
