Sarah Dee Berry-dove, a lifelong resident of Selma and recent resident of Orange Beach, Alabama passed away July 9, 2022 after a brief illness.
Affectionately known as Mama Dove or Nana, she was born February 23, 1948 in Austin, Texas to the late Luna Fay Price Berry and the Honorable Henry Clay Berry. In 1966, Sarah graduated from Albert G. Parrish High School and entered Southwest Texas State University where she was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority and Angel Flight. After graduation in 1971, she returned to Selma, her childhood home. For many years she worked for and then later owned Edwards Jewelry Company. Prior to retirement, she had various jobs in accounting.
She is survived by her twin daughters, Nancy Dee Dove and Joy Dawn Dove (Michael Lane, Jr.) Walker, all of Orange Beach, Alabama; special grandson, Gerald W. “Tag” Mills, III; sister, Susan Cemira Berry Andrews of Greenville Alabama; niece, Cemira Marie (Travis) Powell of Greenville Alabama; nephew, Jefferson Samuel (Mel) Andrews of Dothan Alabama; grandnephews, James Andrews, Joseph Powell and Clay Powell and grandniece, Megan Andrews.
Her family and friends know that she loved University of Alabama football, house-sitting dogs, and cooking for her friends and family.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Amy George officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow at Live Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church in the Tipton Parlor beginning at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Travis Ray Powell, Michael Lane Walker, Jr., Joseph Martin Powell, Gerald W. Mills, III, Jefferson Samuel Andrews, Guy Clifford Stillinger and Kory Patrick Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 210 Lauderdale St, Selma 36701; the Cemetery Preservation Group, P. O. Box 2341 Selma 36702, or the Selma-Dallas County Public Library, 1103 Selma Ave Selma 36701.
