SARAH ELEANOR MCINNIS HENDERSON, August 26, 1941 – November 2, 2016

Sarah Eleanor McInnis Henderson died in Huntsville, Alabama, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer Disease.  Born in Montgomery, Sarah graduated from Lanier High School, and then from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics.  After graduation, she moved to Nashville, where she met her husband of 51 years, William B. Henderson.

Sarah and Bill built their life together in Dothan, Alabama for 40 years, where she was active in the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, Dothan Service League and Forsythia Garden Club.   She served in many roles at Nativity, including vestry member, a member of a Honduran mission trip and director of their “Good News” shop.  She also worked as a realtor and bookkeeper for several businesses in Dothan, and was an active member of the “Lanier Poettes” in Montgomery.  After moving to Huntsville, Bill and Sarah joined the Episcopal Church of the Nativity Huntsville, where she volunteered until her disease no longer enabled her to do so.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Annie Osborne Fitzgerald McInnis, and father, Donald Malcolm McInnis; her beloved sister, Lucy McInnis Hamilton, and brother-in-law, Daniel Lane Hamilton.

She is survived by her devoted husband, William Beekman Henderson; her daughter, Sarah Anne Henderson Savage; her son, William Beekman Henderson, Jr. (Will) and daughter-in-law, Garnett Westbrook Henderson of Atlanta, GA; her brother and sister-in-law, Meriwether and Jennifer Henderson, of Gulf Breeze, FL; four grandchildren, Sarah Jessica Savage (Jessica); Charlotte Elizabeth Savage (Charlotte); Margaret Westbrook Henderson (Brook); and William Beekman Henderson, III (William); and two nephews and a niece.

Funeral services and interment will be held at St. Paul’s Carlowville, Alabama, on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation at from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. with Lawrence Brown=Service Funeral Home, Selma, Alabama directing.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Community Foundation of Huntsville/Madison County’s Henderson Family Legacy Fund.
