Stella Marie Rhyne Hobdy of Hayneville (Trickem), Alabama passed away peacefully, into eternal life on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at the age of 103 at Clay County Nursing Home, Ashland, Alabama. She lived a long and wonderful 103 years, seven months and four days.
She was born March 30, 1919 in Benton, Alabama to Brady and Laura Marie Farrar Rhyne. She was the oldest and last surviving of their four children.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Henry Harold Hobdy; siblings, Julia Rhyne (DeForest) Nolen, Beulah Rhyne (Tom) Carswell, brother-in-law, (Beulah’s first husband), Mike Simmons and Carroll “Hoffman” (Mary Thomas) Rhyne and Ronald Griffith, son-in-law.
She loved God, the church, her family, her friends (everyone), her work and living in the country. She was an unconditional loving, loyal and devoted wife and mother; a faithful follower of Jesus, her Savior; beloved member of Benton Baptist Church and a career elementary school teacher for 25 years, most of which were at Montgomery Public Schools. She especially loved all the wonderful years at Catoma Elementary School, Montgomery, Alabama where for several years she taught 4th grade. She was a long-time member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), Selma, AL chapter. She was a “pink lady” for many years with the Auxillary at Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma. She enjoyed being a cattle woman at the Lowndes County homeplace in Trickem, AL. She loved all and will forever be missed, but thankfully, this is not the end of the story. We will be together again soon, as believers and followers of Jesus Christ and will really live eternally.
She is survived by her six children, Harrell Henry (Johnie, who followed her home to heaven the very next day) Hobdy of Prairieville, Louisiana, Carol Hobdy Griffith of Pelham, Alabama, Wayne R.
