Sybil Lee Murphy was called to Glory on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 9:15 p.m. in Selma, AL. She had been suffering over the past three months with lung and back problems. Jimmy, her husband of over fifty eight years, was at her side when she passed. She will be missed by her husband, Elkdale Baptist Sunday School Class, the local Library Book Club members and many other friends.
Sybil was born in Aliceville, AL on September 20, 1938. When she was in high school she worked at the local Pickens County Printing Company. After graduating from high school she moved to Birmingham to work at the Birmingham Newspaper part-time and attend a trade school. Upon graduating from school, she moved to Selma, AL and worked at Craig Air Force Base until the base closed in 1978. A short time later, she started working at Danelly National Air Force Guard until her retirement in June, 1994 She served our country as a civil service employee for thirty two years.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy; sister, Emma Lewis and number of nephews and nieces in North Carolina, Kentucky, California and Georgia. Also, she is survived by a large host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, James, Jr. "Jim"; father, James Lee; mother, Lola Bell Lee and brother, David Lee.
Graveside services will be Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Pineview Memory Gardens with Rev. Guy Anderson officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be the members of the Roy Davis/Hilliard Rush Sunday School Class.
The family appreciates the warm and professional kindness shown to them by the Doctors Clower, Chittom, Sr., Chittom, Jr, and the Vaughan Hospital staff.
The family requests no flowers. Memorial gifts may be made to Selma-Dallas County Public Library, Elkdale Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
