Thomas L. Coleman, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on August 17, 2016 at the age of 69 surrounded by his family. He was born February 5, 1947 to the late Thomas L. and Kathryn Coleman in Selma, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary C. Irwin and niece, Carrie I. Hughes.
He worked at Old Cahawba State Park for many years sharing his love of local history with many visitors. He was an active member of the Friends of the Sultana. He was a charter member of the First Christian Church in downtown Selma. As a young boy through adulthood, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America from an Eagle Scout to the Leader of Troop 27. Working with his hands, he gained experience in woodworking, blacksmithing, pottery, caning and stain glass making, and even owned and operated a greenhouse, Meadowview Gardens.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 46 years, Ruth Whatley Coleman; daughters Beana (Josh) Kuntzman and Kathryn (Patrick) Roark; granddaughters, Beana Olivia, Mary Cadence and Ella Kathryn Kuntzman; aunt and uncle, L. Byron (Kathleen) Coleman, Jr.; brother-in-law, Edward P. Irwin; sister-in-law, Martha W. Woodfin and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be Sunday, August 21 at 3:00 pm in New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. Von McQueen officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Josh Kuntzman, Patrick Roark, Phillip Woodfin, John Woodfin, Jeremy Hughes, Brian Stuart, Lee Piburn, David Johnson and Danny Green.
