Thomas Nabors, Jr.

Mr. Thomas J. Nabors, Jr., husband of the late Decell T. Nabors of Gallion, AL, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Woodhaven Manor in Demopolis.

Mr. Nabors was born in Webster County, Mississippi on May 16, 1934 as the oldest of 9 children, 2 girls and 7 boys, to Thomas J. Nabors, Sr. and Edna Hodges Nabors.

He was a retired heavy equipment operator.

Mr. Nabors met his wife to be, Decell Tharp, in January of 1953. They were married on September 15, 1953. Decell left this walk of life on January 26, 2016, as Jesus had prepared a place for her in Heaven.

Mr. Nabors learned at an early age the importance of hard and honest work to provide for his family. like any family they experienced hard times. As long as the work was honest, Mr. Nabors never gave up. In spite of difficult jobs and situations, he persevered to support his family.

The family moved to Selma in 1959 and became members of Pisgah Presbyterian Church. Mr. Nabors later served the church as a deacon. Throughout the years, attending church was very important to the family.

Mr. and Mrs. Nabors moved to Marengo County in 2005. He continued to work, running a pump truck. In July of 2015, his formal employment ended in retirement, yet he continued to work. He enjoyed taking care of his home, property, garden, working on his equipment, and many other things. He loved to share the fruits of his harvest with his friends and neighbors.

Mr. Nabors has laid down his earthly tools. He's now finding out what tools God has for him, to work with in Heaven.

Mr. Nabors favorite scripture was Psalm 23. These verses assured him that no matter what the circumstance, he was in the hand of the Good Shepherd.

Mr. Nabors is survived his sons, Tommy (Sharon) Nabors and James Calvin (Debbie) Nabors; grandson,
T.J. Nabors, IV; granddaughter, Lauren Nabors (Jesse) Averette; and great-grandchildren, Braxton Averette and Marissa Averette.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Decell Nabors; parents, Thomas and Edna Nabors; and siblings, James, Jimmy Dale, Carl, Sue, and Ruth.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Selma Funeral Home with Rev. Warren Huggins officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m..

Interment will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Mark Kilgore, Clint Crawford, Chuck Glass, Buddy Hasty, George Webb, and Danny Baker.

Final care and arrangements have been faithfully entrusted to the care of Selma Funeral Home.
