Thomas Stone

March 6, 1926 — February 11, 2011

Thomas R. Stone, age 84, went to Heaven to help God get the watermelons planted on February 11, 2011. He was preceded in death by his father; Marion C. Stone; mother: Henrietta W. Stone; sisters: Frances Prescott and Clifferdean Gandy; brothers: Alvin (Jack) Stone and Roy Winston Stone; and grandson: Tommy Stone. Thomas leaves behind a loving wife of almost 65years, Sylvia Agee Stone, who was holding his hand at his last breath; sons: Rod (Patsy) and Terry Douglas; daughters: Janice Pelfrey and Toni (John) Siverling; brothers: Rev. W.C. (Martha) Stone and Howell (Janet) Stone; and sisters-in-laws: Frances and Patricia Stone. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Russ (Jennifer), Tim, Jeremy Meccarielo, Christia, Allbre Siverling, Ryan Siverling, Tyler Horton, Michael Patterson and Stephen Stone; and 7 great grandchildren. Thomas served in the U.S. Army in World War II in Germany where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart, along with several other decorations and metals. He was a proud lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3016 in Selma. He was maintenance supervisor for Bayuk (Phillies) Cigar Co. for 40years before his retirement. He loved farming and grew lots of big watermelons. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 14th at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home from 1-2 pm with services at 2:00 pm with Rev. Ed Eaton officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow at New Live Oak cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. A very special thank you is extended to Bill Nichols State Veterans Home of Alexander City and especially for the 4th floor staff who loved and cared for our husband and father as well. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Thomas Stone to Westwood Baptist Church, 4085 US Hwy 80 W, Selma, or VFW Post 3016, 299 Kings Bend Road, Selma.
