Velma Cobb Overstreet
Velma Cobb Overstreet died on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the age of 87. She was born November 18, 1924, in Moletts Bend, Alabama. Velma Cobb is the great granddaughter of Benjamin Barnes Jr. who fought in the Civil War. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Clinton Overstreet, her parents, William Lummy Cobb, Velma Roebuck Gray, two brothers, Lloyd Cobb, William A. Cobb, and one sister, Luvenia Harris.
She is survived by her two children, Linda Carol Overstreet Cleveland (Bill), Ramona Sue Overstreet Pearson, three grandchildren, Jared Ryan Cleveland (Kelli), Mandy Cleveland Burns (Wren), Devin Keith Pearson, and three great grandchildren, Cleveland Wren Burns, Jackson Delaney Cleveland, Cole Kervin Cleveland and Thomas Henry Burns and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 23, 2012 at New Live Oak Cemetery with Reverend Al Finch officiating Lawrence Brown- Service Funeral Home directing. The Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday.
She was a long time resident of Flatwood, Alabama, in Wilcox County, where she was a member of the Catherine Presbyterian Church and an active member of the Women of the Church. After moving to Selma, she was a member of Elkdale Baptist Church. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ, her family and friends, and her community.
Pallbearers will be William H Cleveland, Jared Ryan Cleveland, Devin Keith Pearson, Christopher Wren Burns, Ralph Jordan, and Kent Harris.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Donald Clyde Overstreet, Jim Cobb, Donald Earl Davis, Ted Davis, and Winfred Brown, Dr. Boyd Baily, Dennis Cobb, Kenneth Cobb and Ben Barnes.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Catherine Presbyterian Church or The Alzheimer's Association.
