Vera Atchison Cain, age 80, of Plantersville, born October 25, 1929, died Saturday May 29, 2010 at her home. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Cain, parents Ben and Eunice Atchison, four sisters and four brothers. Survivors include her three sisters, Helen Massey of Grove Hill, AL, Irene Teel of Pueblo, CO and Erma Levins of Plantersville, AL, three brothers, Clifton (Hazel) Atchison of Selma, Jimmy (Shirley) Atchison of Plantersville, AL, David (Dickie) Atchison of Plantersville, AL and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday May 30, 2010 at Plantersville Baptist Church with burial following at Plantersville Baptist Cemetery. Reverend Mike Golson officiated, with nephews, Darren Atchison giving the eulogy and Rick Melton singing and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Visitation was from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Cain retired after 36 years from Zeigler Meats. She was a member of Plantersville Baptist Church where she was also a member of Eula Maye Friday���s Sunday school class. She made her favorite caramel cake for the sick of the community and for favorite occasions. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and community.
Pallbearers were her nephews, Boris, Jeff and Tony Levins, Jerry and Johnny Atchison, Darren Atchison, Barry Atchison, Will Massey, Mike Walker, John Teel and Bobby McDaniel.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Plantersville Baptist Church or Cahaba Hospice.
