Virginia Suttle Mallory died at home peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at the age of 82. Mrs. Mallory was born on August 18, 1932, in Selma, AL to James Freeman Suttle, Jr. and Mary Fuller Suttle. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Hugh Mallory III; her two daughters, Thecla Harper of Houston, TX and Jennie Lukac (Eugene) of Surfside, FL; her brother J. Freeman Suttle, III (Harriet) of Selma; her sister Mary Suttle Payne (Stanley) of Chattanooga, TN. She is also survived by numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Mallory grew up in Suttle, AL. She graduated from A.G. Parrish High School, Selma AL in June of 1950, attended Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg VA for two years and transferred to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in June of 1954. Mrs. Mallory majored in music (piano) and was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority at the University of Alabama.
Growing up, Mrs. Mallory was a member of Pine Flat Baptist Church in Suttle, AL. She and Hugh Mallory, III were married there on June 4, 1955. In 1959, they joined the Episcopal Church in Port Arthur, TX and continued to be active members of the Episcopal Church. Mrs. Mallory served on the Altar Guild at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, TX and she was an Altar Guild coordinator at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Selma, AL for a number of years.
Mrs. Mallory was a member of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America and Pandora.
The family appreciates the love and support given to her by all of her friends and the community of Selma.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, December 9 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Columbarium.
