William Blanch Brantley, 84, of Selma, died at his home May 12, 2010. Funeral services will be held at Houston Park Church of Christ on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Minister Tom McLemore and Rev. Clayton Barnes will be officiating with Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at New Live Oak cemetery.
His parents, William and Maude Brantley and his sister, Arthurene Ogden, preceded him in death.
Mr. Brantley was survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances Dyess Brantley of Selma, daughter; Denise Brantley Howorth (Ken) of Texarkana, Tx, son; James William Brantley (Lynette) of Selma, and the grandchildren; Heath William Brantley of Selma, and Hillary Denise Howorth of Texarkana, TX; sisters, Marie Echols of Montgomery, AL Juliette Ingram (Bill) of Montevallo, AL, and Marlene Grissette of Excel, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
William Blanch Brantley was born and reared in Monroe County and was a veteran of WWII where he served in the European Theatre of Operations. He was active in his church, Houston Park Church of Christ and was an elder for many years at Highland Ave. Church of Christ. He enjoyed ministering and visiting with friends in the nursing home, hospitals, and in their homes. He retired from Stewart, King and McKenzie where he worked for 41 years in various positions.
Mr. Brantley enjoyed his retirement because it allowed him to spend more time with his family that he loved so much. His grandchildren were his highlight of the day.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Echols, Butch Grissette, Ricky Pendley, Doug Ferguson, Forrest Hatfield, and Larry Lewis. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Missildine, Jim Molette, and Don Davis.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Chittom, Sr., the staff of Asera Care Hospice and his special sitters: Sarah Hall, Logrande Lee, Leonard Lewis, and a heartfelt appreciation to the church family and friends.
