William Vincent McGucken II of Selma, Alabama, following a lengthy illness, died August 16th at Park Place Nursing Home.
Mr. McGucken was preceded in death by his parents, William Vincent McGucken Sr.(Ann) of Huntsville Al. and Mrs. Eloise Hicks formerly of Selma, grandparents B.F. Hicks( Lucy Cathcart) of Alberta and uncles Lucian F Hicks (Dorothy), Clyde Edward Hicks, Sam C. Hicks (Betty), and aunt, Mary Emma Roberts (Robbie) of Alberta, Al.
Mr. McGucken is survived by his wife Vickie, son Ben (Amy Lynn), daughters Jennifer Shore (Russell), and Amy Elizabeth. Also surviving are grandsons Kyle, Patrick, and Jack, brothers Stephen (Betsy), Jimmy, Lee and sister Rosalyn. He also leaves behind one aunt, Sarah Hudson, ten cousins, niece Stephenie McGucken, mother-in-law Hilma Bennett: and faithful dog, Lilly.
Visitation will be held at Lawrence Brown Funeral Home on Friday, August 19th from 6-8PM . A memorial service will take place on Saturday, August 20th, 10AM , at 1st Presbyterian Church in Selma .
Pallbearers are Tom Steber, Donnie Walker, Kyle McGucken, Patrick McGucken, Russell Shore , and Barry Reed.
William McGucken taught in the Dallas County school system for 35 years. He set up the first computer lab in the Dallas County School system at Southside High School . He held a BS degree in Geology from Birmingham Southern College. While a sophomore at Birmingham Southern he was published in the Alabama Geological Survey of 1964: The Appalachian Structural Front in Alabama. He conducted numerous workshops in DNA, taught in the Upward Bound Program at Concordia, and was a lab instructor for a summer teacher re-certification program at Montevallo University.
