Ellen Wynonia ���Granny��� Odom, 79, died at Graceland Care Center of Oxford, MS, Saturday, April 17, 2010, at 4:15 p. m. Wynonia was born on August 9, 1930, in Eden, AL. She received her Registered Nursing degree from George C. Wallace Community College. She lived the majority of her life in Selma, AL and worked in the health care profession for over 35 years as an OB/GYN Nurse, as a long term care provider and as a hospital staff nurse. She held management positions as Director of Nursing and Day/Night Supervisor. After her retirement, she supported her daughter���s Chung���s Taekwondo of Selma as a receptionist and a friend to all those who entered. Granny���s greatest attribute in life was that she was a true care giver who provided comfort to others through a personal touch. Wynonia is preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Dalton ���Tony��� Odom; son, Frank Johnson of Cahaba, AL; Brothers A. V. Grimes of Bessemer, AL; J. T. (Mildred) Grimes of Bessemer, AL; Timothy Grimes of Adger, AL; L. D. (Adlene) Glass of Eastern Valley, AL; Sisters Maureen (J. D.) of Bessemer, AL; Lavada (James ���Cupps���) Pate of Columbiana, AL. Survivors include her daughter, Susan L. (Dan) Yates of Oxford, MS, seven grandchildren, Alyson Blair of Oxford, MS; Abigial (Jason) Stanford stationed at Alconbury Royal Air Force in Cambridgeshire, England; Michael (Kathleen) Blair of Washington, DC; Robbie Johnson (Michelle) of Tampa, FL; Tammy (Luis) Martinez of Athens, AL; Jennifer Yates of Richmond, VA; Jeff Yates of Madison, AL; six great grandchildren, Jason Bryant Stanford, II, Parker Lane Stanford; Jonathan Martinez; Emily Johnson, Charlie Johnson, and Peyton Johnson; Sister-in-Law Ruth Grimes of Bessemer, AL; Half-Brother Dale Grimes of Liberty, MO; Half-Sisters Jeanette Beshears of Kansas City, MO; Juanita Dunnam of Independence, MO; JoAnn Fuller of Liberty, MO; Johnnie Faye Parker of Kansas City, MO; and Patty Earhart of Kansas City, MO. Nieces and Nephews are Carolyn and Charles Grimes of Adger, AL; Barbara Jean (Thomas) Thomas of Warrior, AL; J. W. (Judy) Grimes of Clanton, AL; Johnny Grimes of McCalla, AL. A chapel service will be held Wednesday April 21, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Hatcher officiating with burial following at Pine View Memorial Gardens in Selma.
